THE SEBAGO WAY – SINCE 1981
Sebago Technics was founded by Walter P. Stinson. P.E. in 1981. Working from his kitchen table he began with a commitment to serve customers with integrity, respect and responsive service. Early on Walt foresaw the benefits of a multi-discipline firm. Accordingly, he earned licensure/certification as a professional engineer, professional land surveyor, certified soils scientist and licensed soil evaluator. Walt and Sebago quickly earned the respect and loyalty of residential and commercial developers, local officials and the contracting community. These relationships continue today and are an important element of the company’s and clients’ success.
In 1984, Sebago Technics added surveying as a full-time discipline with the employment of Charles L. Brown, Jr. P.L.S. Charlie brought experienced and responsive survey services to Sebago’s clients. Sebago has always viewed survey services as an integral component of the design and engineering processes. Moreover, the ability to control the schedule of survey services has allowed Sebago to be more efficient in its project delivery than survey-only or engineering-only services firms.
In 1988, Sebago began offering Landscape Architecture services to its clients. With the addition of William T. Conway, R.L.A and three other Landscape Architects, Sebago could now seamlessly integrate landscape planning and design into its projects. Sebago’s Landscape Architects are accomplished, practical land planners who are able to conceive and conceptualize the optimal layout and design of projects. In this manner they are an invaluable resource to clients and engineers alike.
1990 brought the addition of Environmental and Natural Resources Services to the Sebago lineup. Sebago was now able to offer environmental engineering, environmental site assessments (Phase 1, Phase 2, VRAPs), engineered septic systems, wetlands/vernal pool delineation, along with soil science and septic design. These services allowed Sebago to move into new markets of environmental remediation, sewer system design and state/federal environmental projects.
In 1999, Transportation and Traffic Engineering services further expanded the disciplines provided by Sebago. Stephen S. Sawyer, P.E. was hired to head up the sector with more than 25 years of transportation experience at a large national transportation firm. Over the years this discipline has increased Sebago’s government sector work with projects for Departments of Transportation’s (Sebago currently has General Services contracts with State Transportation Agencies in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont), municipalities and regional transportation agencies. In addition, we are able to provide private sector clients with traffic studies, traffic movement permitting services and offsite highway improvement designs. In the past few years, Sebago’s transportation professionals have developed niche services in traffic signals communication system design and operations.
Over the last 15 years, Sebago has continued to add to its services offerings with the additions of:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, programming and database management
- Site Graphic Design and Conceptual Renderings
- High Definition Laser Scanning
- LEED Accreditation
- Certified FEMA Floodplain mapping
- LIDAR conversion
- Construction Inspection and Management
- Project Management
As Sebago looks to its 35th year in business, we will continue to seek to provide services that aid clients in their projects and secure the company’s positon as Maine’s engineering services leader.
